marathonmarathonmarathonmarathon!!....ZzZzz

Gosh i am a terrible blogger. I need to stick to what i promised a few months back and consistently blog. If only i were so concentrated in one passion.

My latest goal is to conquer the New York City marathon coming up on Sunday, November 1st. With just little over a month left to train, this period of time is absolutely CRUCIAL to my surviving this thing. I'm sure i've driven my friends and family crazy talking about it all the time... and the sacrificing hang-out time for training is probably putting a serious dent in my social life, but what needs to be understood here is that this is such an experience to be had!! Just knowing and hearing my friends tell me how crazy the distance is makes me want to do it even more.
It feels like when i made the nutty decision two years ago to attempt a 13.1 mile race. I vividly remember telling myself i'll try it just once for the experience, but ever since then i've raced in five of them. And now to push the envelope even further im going to be running my first ever marathon this year.

I'm normally capoeira obsessed and training like a loon, but lately my running has come to the drivers seat of my ambitions. However, they're both especially neck in neck now since my trip to L.A. for the CBLA batizado. I came back feeling exhilarated and hungry to play and train. I so badly want to improve my game in the roda.
Lately i've felt a little more confident in my game, a bit more ballsy to try out some new moves, but it gets tough when you're trying to focus on so many aspects of the game at once.. Your opponent, the music, maintaining good technique, proper execution of the moves, timing..it can be very overwhelming! But for some reason i always seem to go back hungry for more. And im the type who likes it perfect from the start, so id rather fine tune all moves during training first before attempting it in the roda.

But this entry is more about my marathon training. I can never seem to be able to eat enough, i'm always hungry!! I love it though because i get to eat lots of yummies without much regard to weight gain. At this point i feel almost ethiopian-esque i've been running so much. What used to be long runs are now my short runs and i've never felt better. I ran a half last weekend in 1hr 51min, a bit over my best time of 1:48 so my goal for the Staten Island half two weekends from now is to shave off at least 10minutes for a 1:41 race.
Less weight to carry for 13.1 miles is better on my legs .

Todays run was admittedly a bit shitty because i was getting hunger pangs from the start. I did roughly 2 miles at 9:15 pace, then two 1 mile tempo runs at an 8min pace, followed by 3.5 miles easy. I had little energy thru alot of it so ill have to make it up during tomorrows run with some really strong 100m strides.

Mom cooked me some rice with steamed salmon, yu choy and sesame kale. Yum. Until trouble struck my stomach. As of late ive been getting really a queasy stomach following long runs that never used to happen in my high school days. I hate to say my age is catching up to me but i guess it is.. Early morning runs before any meal seems to work best for me. So i would suggest that to any of you who have similar digestive post-run ailments. Also avoid high fiber foods, dairy and highly acidic fruits like apples. High fiber foods are more difficult for your stomach to digest and can cause upsets later. White wonder bread all the way! :)
But tomorrow is a other day and now i need my beauty rest. Gnite!

Zee Avi

Currently listening to this awesome artist I discovered recently on youtube.

Especially obsessed with Poppy because of its beautifully ironic nature. The backdrop is chipper and airy, the song is about how drugs stole her love away from her. Repeat one.

Please....do yourself a favor and look her up! She is beyond brillz. One day I have to see her live. The best part is she's a youtube child, discovered by a producer, contacted and shipped immediately to L.A. to record her first album.

Unreal. Dreams do come true! She's also a fellow ukulelist. This chickadee is my latest inspiration.

iphone game you must download! : Peggle

My boyfriend has recently introduced me to the very addictive Peggle game for the iPhone.

I am in fact forsaking sleep for the pleasure of knocking off the little pegs with my laser shooter thingamajig.

Bwa-ha-ha.
Silly boyfriend.
This means no nookie for a week!

once a hoochie, not always a hoochie

Digging through my closet, doing some outfit re-evaluations and I stumbled upon THIS. -->

Racy, no? I used to be so bold with these crazy tops. I'm not sure it should be resurrected though... x_x

This number was worn during convention 2005 . Wore it that Saturday night..
Never told anyone, but the right strap BROKE off during the party.

I'd like to thank safety pins and strategic knot tying for keeping on what little fabric I had on to begin with.

On that note, had a great day at beach with JP yesterday to an almost fantastic evening of good food at Butter if not for my car getting towed to the police impound. Suckage.

Composition Notebooks aren't just for grade schoolers

Oh yes. I've gone and done it again...purchased a probably un-needed but VERY wanted item.

It's the composition notebook duffel bag!

My capoeira uniform bag I bought in Hong Kong has been going to shreds lately and was recently piddled on by our dog Honda, so new satchel was in order.

It has all I've ever wanted in a gym bag...functionality, roominess and tons of flair. I can't wait to pick it up tomorrow!!

a valentines day story.

AcK! I am terrible with this thing.

I have every intention to blog more often but my A.D.D. gets the best of me and pulls me off to some "oooh-pretty colors...!"-type distraction.

This being the month O' Love, I want to share with you this years Valentin
es experience.

This Vee-Day I do have a boyfriend...thus, I like Valentine's day! And as a result of my nearly empty pockets (mostly b/c of numerous snowboarding trips taken this year) I agreed with He
n that we not do the V-day gift exchange and instead spend it together like we do every Saturday:

wake up late --> watch youtube --> eat --> walk the dog (maybe) --> play capoeira --> eat a V-day dinner at White Castle (the only difference on this very special day) --> party like its our birthday.

However being a girl, I didn't actually mean what I said....and bought him something anyway. He decided he'd order my gift post-vday.

Hen had work til 2PM on V-day. So I stayed in and did some baking.

He came home, sans the obligatory valentines day flower(s). Which was fine...I'm not much of a flower person anyway. I like my vegetables on my plate.

But being the typical male, procrastinated and failed to make any sort of dinner reservations. (We really wanted to go to White Castle. Don't laugh...they have the most outrageous setup
of a tablecloth, waiter service, crystal goblets, and a stereo spinning Norah Jones and Barry White. It is seriously good times.)

However ridiculous, White Castle calls for some serious RSVP-ing come
February 14th...(so for all you fellow gimmick hunters out there....plan to reserve your seat early in January...that's right...JANUARY!)

After realizing we would be missing out on the fast-dining action, I became pretty upset...which began our hunt in the night for a romantic dinner location.
In retrospect, the whole ordeal turned out to be pretty hilarious. Everything that could go wrong, did...including an effort to meet up with our friends to deliver a pair of shoes.

I will just say it involves x'ing the same bridge at the same time. In opposite directions.

But we did end up going dancing that night, and it was a blast.
Henry made up for it by getting me a melee' of Hanukkah-like gifts, each one ranging from small, to big...getting better and better with each one.

Item 1:
Holographic Candlelit Dinner Kit

Put these glasses on, and all you see are hearts. (<3)

Item 2: A thumb holder for while I read books on the train. (I keep this little jem in my purse at all times.)

Item 3: 2 sets of Japanese Shoelaces. (No picture yet since I haven't ha
d a chance to lace these beauties on yet, but one set makes for a great way to keep my yoga mat nice and rolled up tight!)

Item 4: Sexy Eyes Pillow cases (for my new full sized bed!...where all the magic happens.)

and Item 5: Sky Umbrella
(i LOVE this thing!...I never thought I'd say this, but make it rain God please!!!...because despite your bitter gray-skied wrath, I shall happily be forever under eternal sunny skies. Nyeh nyeh nyeh. Chew on that big guy.)

So that includes my inventory dish. And not only that, but we embarked on a mini vacay to Philly (aka Filadelfia...as Hen likes to spell it). WIth plans to wine and dine ourselves at one of Philly's finest restaurant establishments...The quest for the ever-poop-ular Philly Cheesesteak.

In the duel of Pat's vs. Geno's, we voted Geno's. Why? Geno's has a more tender meat cut, whereas Pat's meat is....meatier...but a bit too chewy for our taste. That's right folks...I ate meat. Guilty as charged. Can I live???
[i promise to follow up with pictures once they're uploaded.]

We also:
- ran up the famous Rocky steps at the Philly museum.
- found a super radical/liberalist bookstore complete with tons of gay-rights material
- discovered the sequel to 7-Eleven.....an 8-Twelve convenience store.
- purchased two posters and a garbage can with a cool graphic design
- witnessed protestors picketing against gun violence in front of a gun shop...in a nearly empty neighborhood. "Honk if you're against it!!"...we didn't really honk. =X
- found Philly weather to be just as cold as New York.
- received the keys to a Quiznos bathroom
- found an ever-trendy frozen yogurt shop: Phileo (which seems to be a branch of New York's "16 Handles")

Thus concludes another successful weekend with Henricus. Happy Vday Beanie.

BTW, at this very moment I have tissues shoved up each one of my nostrils due to a cold. Apparently another gift from my Valentine. :)

Hope all you lovebirds and singlets had a pleasant Valentine's/Hater's Day!!
